Sand Coulee is located in Cascade County, Montana, approximately 10 miles southeast of Great Falls and 100 miles northeast of Helena. Located 35 miles to the south, the Lewis & Clark National Forest is a popular destination for year-round sports and recreation. Home to coniferous forests, wide grassy prairies, and towering mountain peaks, the vast forest offers a variety of recreational activities that include snowshoeing, snow skiing, and snowmobiling in winter; hiking, biking, and horseback riding in summer; and year-round fishing and in-season big game hunting.

Sand Coulee is just 20 minutes from the big-city amenities of Great Falls. Residents and visitors alike can enjoy premier attractions such as the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center, C. M. Russell Museum Complex, and Rivers Edge Trail, an award-winning urban trail that extends for more than 60 miles through the center of the city, connecting parks, museums, and various points of interest before reaching its terminus at Giant Springs State Park on the northeastern edge of the city.
